Service delivery priority for Sibisibi8232
11 Dec 2014
The newly elected chairperson of Kweneng District Council (KDC), Mr Jeffery Sibisibi says service delivery will be top of the agenda during his tenure in ensuring optimal performance of the council.
Laying his road map before fellow councilors during the fourth and last ordinary sitting of the council, he said central to delivery would be the twinning programme.
Cllr Sibisibi said the programme was instrumental in realising improved service delivery as it allowed benchmarking and much needed platform for councilors to gain knowledge through exchange programmes geared towards capacity building.
Also key to his deliverables, Mr Sibisibi said he would ensure that at the end of his term KDC was certified through the currently being implemented Quality Management System.
He told councilors that he would make certain that the Business Continuity Management initiative becomes fully operational to ensure continuity of services offered by council. He futher said he would ensure that KDC facilitates the business environment in an endeavor to attract investors to the district.
“Investors should be able to conduct business with ease in our district,” he added. The new council chairperson said he was better placed to advocate for elimination of constringent procedures which act as bottle necks that hamper service delivery.
This, he said would be achieved by putting in place bye-laws, some of which were long overdue. He also vowed to turn Kweneng district into an industrial hub by utilising “idle land”, that he said was in abundance.
He would also take advantage of the Public Private Partnerships to develop those pockets of land.
In addition, Mr Sibisibi said he would lobby for local and international investors to partner with to develop the district, which would be in line with the KDC newly registered company mandate.
He said the fact that Kweneng is nearer to the capital city, and high in population is an advantage.
He said it was possible that industries could be set up to reduce unemployment rates that were already skyrocketing in the district.
Cllr Sibisibi asserted that he would like to see marginalised groups such as youth; women and people living with disability benefit as well as take part in the development of the district.
That, he said would be achieved by involving relevant stakeholders and authorities to make informed decisions.
A business directory of the district, he said would be established and platforms sought to engage with local businesses to map a way forward to develop the district.
Mr Sibisibi mentioned that he would advocate for the welfare of councilors and make sure that they were empowered, as he was still in talks with financial and educational institutions in this regard
Meanwhile KDC has resumed business and councilors have been appointed to sit on various committees.
However, on Tuesday opposition councilors threatened to boycott council as they felt that there were no seats reserved for opposition councilors in the said committees deeming the whole process unfair.
However, KDC Chairperson urged councilors to put aside party affiliations and work as one team with one common vision to serve the people. ENDS
