Motlaagana to curb unemployment

09 Dec 2014

The launch of Motlaagana Wa Banana Society textile project will go a long way in promoting the country’s textile business, says Teemane Manufacturing Company human resources manager, Mr Tuwane Molatedi.

Speaking during the launch of the project by Botswana Post in Serowe recently, Mr Molatedi said not only would the project provide the much needed job skills to the youth but would also mould them into becoming responsible citizens. Botswana Post donated machinery and a vehicle valued at P280 430 to Motlaagana Wa Banana Society.

He said this was symbolic of how the initiatives at Motlaagana Wa Banana Society demonstrated the growing interest and commitment of improving the livelihood of the young, underprivileged and unemployed people of the district and the country at large.Mr Molatedi said the society’s textile project was a flagship because it specifically focuses on encouraging survival skills through promotion of handicraft skills.

He said the launch was timely because the youth were faced with numerous challenges of delinquency and high rate of unemployment.

Mr Molatedi said the center would be the first physical set-up project in Serowe for textile manufacturing training. It would provide a vibrant environment for youth empowerment with textile manufacturing skills. The project, he added aimed to equip the youth with life skills that could benefit them and the Serowe community. He applauded Botswana Post for donating the industrial machines and materials which would be used to kick start the project.

The success of the project has the potential to impact far beyond the borders of the Central district and the country, he said. However, he challenged the unemployed youth to realise that they have the power to change the world, hence the need to use such projects to empower themselves.

For her part, BotswanaPost Foundation vice chairperson Ms Boitumelo Mothibamele said through the good gesture of the foundation, BotswanaPost was restoring hope and nurturing dreams as great republics were founded on fulfilled communities, while fulfilled communities were created by fulfilled individuals.

Ms Mothibamele said for this year’s project they took a deliberate decision to focus on youth development hence the officially handing over of projects that would assist youth with handicraft skills.

She said the youth are the future leaders, and the nation holds the country and its assets in trust for them and for future generations.BotswanaPost Foundation was launched in 2011 with its main focus being to give focus and manage the organisation’s corporate social responsibility programme. ENDS
