Programme uptake sluggish in Ramotswa

09 Dec 2014

The uptake of poverty eradication initiative programmes is still slow in the Ramotswa Sub-district.

The sub district chairperson, Mr Adolf Mosalaesi said this on Monday December 8 during the opening of the first session of the Ramotswa Sub-district council.

He however said efforts were being made to promote participation of beneficiaries on the rehabilitation projects.

He said there were only 72 alternative packages projects that had been funded in the area and only 56 were operational.

“Sixteen of these are not operating due to various reasons such as lack of commitment to the project, lack of operational space or client having lost interest in the project,” he added.

Further, he said the council arm of social and community development completed an awareness training workshop for all beneficiaries approved for assistance.

Further, he said training arrangement for the recently approved 311 beneficiaries and those that were bought equipment without training was in progress.

Councillor Mosalaesi further decried that the market days which were aimed at promoting the beneficiaries products were not bearing much fruits.

“There is need to educate the beneficiaries on the importance of this day, “Councillor Mosalaesi added.

He decried that some of the beneficiaries had developed a dependency syndrome and only attended the day on the account that they were being transported to and from the event. ENDS
