Of the 12 toilet units at the Gaborone Bus Rank, only seven are functional while the block at the Station Taxi Rank has been closed for maintenance over the last two weeks, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Botlhogile Tshireletso has said. 

Answering a question in Parliament on Monday, December 8, Ms Tshireletso said most of the toilets had been vandalized and that they will be maintained using in-house maintenance crews. 

She said the council intended to outsource the improvement, maintenance and running of public toilets through public private partnership (PPP). 

The expression of interest has been floated for a property management consultant who will assist the council to assess business case for PPP as submitted for different spaces and facilities including the development and improvement of toilets at the bus rank. 

Gaborone North MP Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister if he was aware that public toilets at the Gaborone Bus Rank had not been functional for almost a year and what plans were in place to address the anomaly as it had become an environmental concern. ENDS
