Debswana recognises employees
07 Dec 2014
Debswana has awarded 119 employees certificates for long service ranging from 20 to 35 years of uninterrupted and loyal service.
Debswana’s managing director, Mr Balisi Bonyongo described the award recipients as men and women who have dedicated a large part of their lives to working for Debswana.
As Debswana celebrated 45 anniversaries this year, the recipients were reported to have walked the better part of that journey and saw the company grow.
“To commit these many years of continuous service to one organisation is a significant achievement and it is a commitment that must be acknowledged and honoured,” Mr Bonyongo said.
He informed recipients that their commitment and dedication towards serving Debswana were a source of inspiration to many.
“The many years of service that you have committed to this company have been central to the success of this great company,” he said.
The managing director reminded Debswana employees that their produce, diamonds, had made Botswana what she was.
He, however, attributed such success to the visionary leadership of the country’s forefathers.
Quoting the former president Sir Ketumile Masire as having said ‘before we discovered diamonds, we discovered good leaders,’ Mr Bonyongo added that not only good leaders were discovered but good diamond people.
Speaking at the event, the outgoing Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines general manager, Dr Adrian Gale said “it’s Debswana management’s opportunity to publicly acclaim you all here tonight …to pass 20 years is a milestone, to pass 35 years is truly remarkable.”
Dr Gale applauded the employees’ contribution, saying it was a cornerstone to the remarkable growth of the nation.
He encouraged recipients to continue working for OLDM with the same spirit and commitment and to take Debswana to even greater heights. ENDS
