Ministry to repair GaboroneLobatse Road fence

13 Mar 2013

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is procuring labour-based technology contracts to undertake routine maintenance interventions on all damaged sections of the fence along the A1 road from Gaborone to Lobatse.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Johnnie Swartz said all damaged sections would be repaired under those contracts and the ministry had not considered increasing the height of the fence as it was not aware of livestock jumping over the fence.

However, he said the ministry, through the roads department, would access the area and the fence in order to apply appropriate intervention to reduce the likelihood of livestock jumping the fence into the road reserve if it could be found that there was possibility for livestock to jump over the fence.

Mr Swartz was answering a parliamentary question on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Communications.

The MP for South East South, Mr Odirile Motlhale had asked the minister if he was aware that the fence between the railway line and tarred road at Mokgosi siding was damaged.

He also asked him if he would consider increasing the height of the fence in the area because the ground level on the side of the fence is high which makes it easy for livestock to jump over it. ENDS
