Premier league shifts gear
04 Dec 2014
The past recent weeks of the be Mobile Premier League have been scintillating.
Even though last weekend’s results conjured up a magnificent goals galore, the league continues again this weekend with more excitement and anticipation.
It has been a fascinating start for the defending champions, Township Rollers and tonight (November 5) they begin week 13 fixtures by visiting Motlakase Power Dynamos at Serowe Sports Complex at 7 pm.
Mapalastina are still fresh from their 6-1 dismantling of Orapa United and another convincing win against Motlakase will make them even more ruthless. The last time the two teams met was few weeks ago in the Mascom Top 8 quarter-finals, and Rollers electrified Motlakase with an 8-1 aggregate win.
For Motlakase, they know Rollers very well and will be looking to prove them wrong. With Rollers still on the top of the log and a 19 points gap ahead of their opponents, Motlakase can only hope for a David and Goliath result.
The biggest game of the weekend on Saturday, Decembe,r 6 will be between Gaborone United and Extension Gunners at Molepolole Sports Complex at 4 pm.
With three points behind Gunners and lying on the sixth spot, Gaborone United will host a different Gunners side which they beat at Lobatse last season in that controversial match which provoked Gunners supporters.
Despite seeking revenge, Mapantsula have been impressive this season and they would be confident as ever after moving two places up into the top four bracket with last weekend’s 3-0 win against FC Satmos.
Still on the same day, Ramotswa based side Letlapeng will host Selebi Phikwe giants at the New Lobatse stadium at 4pm. Letlapeng who defeated BDF XI in the last game will be aiming for another win as they step away from the relegation zone.
In Maun, Sankoyo Bush Bucks who have an impressive home record will host Ecco City Greens at Maun sports Complex at 4 pm. Ngurungu take on the vulnerable ECCO in the same stadium where they gunned down Letlapeng 6-2 two weeks back.
ECCO though still at the bottom of the log with 6 points are still fresh from their Wednesday draw with BR Highlanders and a loss is something they cannot afford Also at 4 pm the same day, FC Satmos will take on Mochudi Centre Chiefs at Selibe Phikwe Stadium.
FC Satmos have been performing below par with their recent matches ending in losses. They face a Mochudi side which hasn’t been at their best. It will be a must win for Magosi if they intend to keep up with BMC and Rollers at the top and get Gunners off their necks.
Second placed BMC will travel to Serowe Sports Complex to take on BR Highlanders at 4pm. BMC which recovered well from the loss to Rollers with a 5-1 win against Notwane will be up for yet another test as they take on BR Highlanders.
Ezinkomo Zia Hlaba will ensure they retain their second spot at the top of the log with a win against the newcomers. Highlanders are on the relegation spot at this point in the league and a win against one of the toughest side in this campaign will see them improve their standing before the holiday break.
At the SSKB Stadium, Notwane will face Orapa United at 4 pm. It will be a game of chances as both teams conceded more than five goals in their last games and their defences would be more cautious than ever.
Notwane, a side which has since changed the coaching department by bringing a foreign coach will aim for a better result before the new coach’s official debut. On Sunday December 7, it will be a battle of the forces as Police XI face BDF XI at SSKB stadium at 3:45 pm.
The last time the two met was a month ago in the quarterfinals of the Mascom Top 8 and the two legged tie ended in a draw. Though BDF XI advanced on an away goal rule, Police XI will be looking for a sweet revenge in this league encounter.
Some teams may be leading at the top and others at the bottom but, on this compelling evidence from last week’s results, there is no cause for complacency as teams head off to another weekend of reshuffle on the log. ENDS
