Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake says the Tribal Territories Act CAP 32:02, which were enacted to define the boundaries of the tribal territories, do not confer any ownership of land on the eight tribes.
Responding to a question in Parliament on March 12, Mr Mokalake said Section 10 of the Tribal Land Act clarified that all the rights and titles to each tribal area in Botswana vested in the land boards for the benefit and advantage of Batswana.
He said this was for the purpose of promoting the economic and social development of all Batswana.
MP for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Gilson Shaleshando had wanted the minister to state whether the Tribal Territories Act conferred ownership of land on eight tribes. ENDS
