Review of Phitshane Molopo-Mabule road design on-going
27 Nov 2014
Parliament has been told that the design of Phitshane/Molopo-Mabule road was completed in March 2010.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said in Parliament on November 26 that, due to the global economic meltdown experienced immediately after the completion of the design, the construction of the road was shelved.
He however said the ministry, through the ongoing Output and Performance Based Road Contracts project (OPRC), which commenced in May this year, was in the process of reviewing the design of the road.
He said the design review was expected to be completed by December this year, while the construction of the road was expected to commence during the second quarter of 2015/16.
Further, the minister noted that the actual start and finish dates of the project would be determined once the design review had been completed and approved by the ministry.
“In the meantime, my ministry continues carrying out routine maintenance activities on the road on a daily basis to keep it trafficable,” he said.
Goodhope-Mabule MP, Mr James Mathokgwane had asked the Minister if he was aware that the project of tarring the road from Phitshane Molopo to Mabule had stalled, if so, why and when was it expected to begin and end. ENDS
