Accommodation shortage countrywide problem
12 Mar 2013
The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has told Parliament that there is an acute shortage of accommodation for police officers including those in Ramotswa and surrounding villages such as Otse and Mogobane.
He said the number of officers who needed accommodation in Otse including Police College was 12, Mogobane seven and 11 in Ramotswa. The minister informed the house that the number of officers with families currently accommodated on sharing bases was four at Botswana Police College and nine at Ramotswa.
Mr Seretse however expressed hope that they would address this national concern through a new government guarantee system where government would stand guarantor for citizens for loans with financial institutions to construct residential houses and lease them to government.
He said his office was receiving submissions from all his departments for compilation and onward submission to the Ministry of Lands and Housing for processing.
MP for South East South, Mr Odirile Motlhale had asked the minister to state the number of police officers in Otse, Mogobane and Ramotswa who needed accommodation and the officers with families currently accommodated on sharing basis. ENDS
