MMEWR has no plans to legislate CSR

The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources has no plans to legislate corporate social responsibility in the mining sector because it is an internationally best practice for mining companies to have CSR activities and programmes as part of their coexistence with the communities within which they operate.
Minister Kitso Mokaila was responding to a question in Parliament by Nata Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga, who had asked if there were any plans to put in place a legislative framework to set out joint responsibilities of companies, local authorities and communities as well as to monitor the extent to which CSR in the mining industry was being met.
