Bridge federation prepares for SABFC

12 Mar 2013

The Bridge federation hosted an open tournament at the University of Botswana in Gaborone on March 9.

The tournament was meant to shortlist players who would compete at the South African Federation Congress (SABFC) in Johannesburg from April 7-14.

In an interview, the federation's public relations officer, Thatayotlhe Maele said he was delighted with the number of the athletes who turned up for both the junior and senior categories.

However, Maele said they were hoping to bring medals from Johannesburg especially through Diniar Minwalla and Nancy Minwalla who were the best in the country. He said the couple was also helping them to coach other players.

He further said they were also hoping for the medal from the promising pair of Nelson Chaka and Tebogo Kubanje.

Maele said the sport was growing, but their main setback was shortage of funds.

He said the other problem was that the sport was mainly dominated by males and they were looking forward to recruit more women.

Meanwhile in the adult section, Diniar and Nancy Minwalla scooped first position winning P400, second position by Nelson Chaka and Tebogo Kubanje winning P300 while third position was taken by Gopal Hingurani and Omphemetse Moedi who won P200.

Furnmart had sponsored the tournament with 50 t-shirts and caps. ENDS
