12 Mar 2013
Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has told Parliament that 829 members of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) resigned in the past three years for various reasons that included loss of interest.
Mr Seretse said while others did not provide reasons, some resigned due to the end of initial contract on enlistment and others wished to further their education or pursuit of other interests. He noted that 188 left at the end of their 10 year initial service contracts.
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state the number of soldiers who resigned from BDF in the last three years and to state the most common reason for their resignation, also to state why there was a high turnover in the army. ENDS
