Mascom 8232donates five houses

Mascom chief executive officer, Mr Jose Couceiro on November 18 handed five houses to five families living in Bobonong in response to the President’s Housing Appeal.
When thanking Mascom for the gesture, Bobirwa Sub-district deputy district commissioner, Mr Mompoloki Mochanang who was standing in for the Office of the President said Mascom greatly contributed to the President’s Housing Appeal.
He noted that the houses would give the beneficiaries a sense of dignity as they now had a proper shelter to live in and feel more secure. In total, the houses built for beneficiaries including the furniture were financed at a tune of P600 000.
He said the President’s Housing Appeal was instigated in 2008 with the aim to provide accommodation for the needy and also accord Batswana one of President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s five D’s ,’Dignity’.
He added that the project aimed to promote one of the country’s Vision 2016 aspirations of being ‘A compassionate, just and caring nation’. He said so far, 405 houses had been constructed while 73 were still under construction.
Mascom chief communications and public relations officer, Mrs Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the initiative was part of their organisational corporate social responsibility mandate to give back to the communities in which they operate.
She said since 2010, Mascom handed over houses to beneficiaries in Molepolole, Ramotlabaki, Gamodubo and Tsolamosese and in total including the five houses that were donated in Bobonong, 22 houses have been constructed by Mascom for needy families.
She said the houses in Bobonong were also furnished with new beds and wardrobes as well as chairs. Further Mascom bought groceries to the beneficiaries to enjoy over the Christmas Holiday.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms Sarah Kgare, said she was thankful for the good gesture. She said her family now had a proper roof over their head.
Ms Matshidiso David who also benefitted from housing appeal also acknowledged Mascom for building a house for her family. She called on Batswana to support Mascom as the organisation also takes care of fellow residents and citizens.
Bobirwa Umbrella Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr William Mogale commended Mascom and the President’s Housing Appeal. He also noted that the department of Veterinary Services also donated 10 goats and a billy-goat to Ms Kgare.
He thanked the Social and Community Development for the good work they have been doing to Bobonong Community. In the meantime, other beneficiaries in Bobonong who had a house built for them by Mascom include Mr Molambani Mothobi from Rasetimela ward, Ms Dingongorego Masilo at Sekoba ward and Ms Itemogeng Semente who also resides at Rasetimela ward. ends
