Tswapong region referees receive gear

19 Nov 2014

Pro Guard security services has donated a full gear which comprises of a kit, cards, a whistle and P1000 to Tswapong region football referees.

Handing over the donation in Gaborone on November 17, the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Moiseraele Goya hailed everyone involved in the provision of gear for the referees.

He said he was honoured and grateful to be the one handing over the gear because he had worked with people of the Tswapong region.  “We have to thank Proguard for this wonderful donation” he said. He said referees were the middlemen in the football field and they deserved the recognition.

He said people tended to forget the referees and never appreciate their efforts even though their work goes beyond grateful.  “We don’t give them the welfare and care they need so let’s see it that we help referees,” he said.

He said he was specifically thankful that the Tswapong Region got the help they needed.

The assistant minister cited many national team players from the region amongst them, Boitumelo Mafoko and Mokgathi Mokgathi, saying it was a clear indication that the area has talented people.  Goya encouraged Proguard security services to continue their good efforts in developing football especially in the northern region.

“I encourage Batswana as a whole to help in promoting football and assist referees from other regions,” he said.

For his part, the managing director of Proguard Security Services, Goitsemodimo Pelotshweu said their company was a home grown company hence their involvement in the promotion of local sport.

Pelotshweu said they have been helping out Botswana sport for some years now and encouraged others out there to do the same.  He said they also needed support from Batswana to acquire their services in order to continue supporting local sport.

The gear will be given to 11 referees and they will also be provided with money for travelling around during the games.  The cash donated will be used for transport. ENDS
