Kutlwano women defeated Kalavango 3-1 in a mouth-watering Mascom Volley Ball league game at the New Lobatse Stadium over the weekend.

Although they lost, Kalavango girls led by the workhorse and national team centre blocker, Monica Alfred, had started the game on fire and won the first set 25/14.

Alfred launched most of the team’s deadly moves and often used her height to slam balls home with very little resistance from the opponents.  Coach Opelo Popa’s girls on the other hand started the game a bit slow, cutting a lot of free balls and easily gave away balls which their opponents used to punish them.

After the break however,  Kutlwano came back recharged, turned the corner and started using their aerial advantage to their benefit through Tebogo Sejewe whose tips were too much for the opponents. Through persistence, Kutlwano won all the sets that ensued 25/22, 25/20 and 25/21 respectively.

The win placed Kutlwano three points behind log leaders; Mafolofolo with 22 points while Kalavango dropped to the third spot. In the men’s category, Kutlwano hammered Tanian and Kalavango 3-0 each. ENDS
