Orange Classic Golf Championship here

13 Nov 2014

The annual Orange classic golf championship will be played at Phakalane Golf estate on November 29-30.

Briefing the media on November 12, Botswana Golf Union (BGU) member, Mpho Kelosiwang described the BGU and Orange relationship, which started in 2008, as one of the longest and enduring relationship over the past year.

The growth of the relationship, he said, was a clear indication that the tournament was of mutual benefit to both Orange and Botswana Golf Union.  “Golfers love this tournament, it is one of the tourneys they always look forward to, in the calendar,” he said.

Kelosiwang said Orange classic allows ladies and men to play the tournament, adding that this year they allowed only 130 players, instead of 140 for the purpose of managing the tournament and ensuring its smooth success.

“Orange will provide 30 players from their corporate clients, and there will be open entry from BGU,” he added. He said the tournament forms part of the world amateur golf rankings, given that after the tournament results are sent to Royal And Ancient for the players to be ranked.

He said the Orange classic is also part of the Windhoek Lager Africa jacket championship, and the standing from the tournament counts towards those who are going to play at the regional tournament.

For his part, Orange sponsorship coordinator, Mosarwa Molema said they had a great relationship with Orange, and their desire was to nurture young and raw talent.

He said players like Tiger Woods started playing at a very young age, hence the need to encourage young people and develop them into better players at an earlier age.  ENDS
