Kweneng District council secretary, Mr Wazha Tema says positive media reporting about activities in Remote Area Development Programmes (RADP) can help yield good results in the development of people in settlements.

Speaking during the second Beauty Pageant organised by KDC for young women in the seven Remote Area Development settlements of Kweneng, Mr Tema said supporting RADP programmes through positive reporting was needed in the development of people in those areas. 

His plea was on the basis that positive reporting about activities in RADP settlement could help motivate individuals and help government achieve its goal of developing lives of the underprivileged. The aim of the beauty pageant as Mr Tema stated was mainly to integrate people in settlements into the mainstream society as well as to achieve social coherence.

“It is important that we support efforts aimed at ensuing complete development of people in the settlements so that they ultimately graduate from the current status and be independent like other Batswana in some parts of the country,” he said.

He however, commended Gem Diamond which sponsored the event for its constant support in developing communities around Kweneng west, especially Kaudwane primary school.

Gem Diamond Cooperate Social and Community Coordinator, Mrs Ontifile Zimona confirmed the total sponsorship of over P27 000 towards prizes, entertainment and accommodation of constants.

She explained that her company has committed itself towards making difference in the upliftment of lives of the underprivileged communities, citing Kaudwane primary school as one school that has started to benefit from the initiative through the support of Gaghoo Diamond mine that is currently working towards renovating the school. 

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Kethusitswe Tshomako of Khekhenye settlement scooped position one out of 12 other contestants followed by Phomolo Kehumile of Diphuduhudu while Kaone Tshwaranang, 22, of Loologane made it to third position. ENDS
