FC Satmos have been booted out of the lucrative Mascom Top 8 after losing 4-1 to Gaborone United in a game played at Molepolole Sports Complex on November 9.
In the first leg of the competition played in Selebi Phikwe recently, GU showed their intention of progressing with the tournament by beating FC Satmos three - nil il in and all in all, the Money Machine matched to the Mascom Top 8 semis with an aggregate score of 7-1.
Although the Sunday game was dull from both sides, it was Money Machine who opened the score sheet on the fifth minute through Mandla Mgadla after connecting well with a beautiful cross from Edwin Olerile.
FC Satmos suffered a major blow when tried and tested right back, Cedric Mosimanewakgosi, was substituted due to injury, and he was replaced by Lesego Moiphemedi just some few minutes after kick-off.
On the 13th minute of the game, GU were awarded a corner kick and Ntesang ‘Mirror’ Simanyana scored the second goal with a low drive, after FC Satmos goalkeeper failed to deal with a corner and his defence failed to cover his mistake as they were all ball watching.
FC Satmos tried to retaliate after that, but Magolodi Balatotse effort to at least pull one back was thwarted by GU goal minder Goitseone Phoko. Benson Shilongo increased the Cheetahs woes on the 40th minute when he scored the third goal to put the game far beyond Satmos reach.
As if GU humiliation to Satmos was not enough Thabiso Khunwane scored the fourth goal some seconds before half time, to ensure that Money Machine went into a break with a convincing lead of 4nil.
After recess both teams did not show any sense of urgency and the status quo remained the same until on the 83rd minute when Mosimanegape ‘Twizzer’ Ramohibidu scored the only goal for FC Satmos to make it 4-1.
After the game Satmos coach Kgosietsile Jacob said his let down was that in the first half his team allowed their opponents to play, adding that the other thing was that they conceded two early goals, therefore it was always going to be difficult for his team to come back.
He said second half, they came back a better team, given that they tried to mark as well as playing attacking football. “Not all is lost, surely there’s a room to correct if we are to keep the whole team intact as it is, but one would just say we will rectify our mistakes,” he said.
GU, coach Rahman Gumbo said their game plan was to kill off the game as early as possible and the early goal did the trick for his side.
He said immediately after the goal, Satmos body language said it all; “they had accepted defeat, hence we then introduced some players who are normally not given game time,” he said. ENDS
