Cincinnati University to invest in Francistown

The senior vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost of Cincinnati University from United States of America (USA), Ms Beverly Davenport says they have plans to invest in the Francistown.
Making a follow up on their 2012 visit and briefing stakeholders at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) on November 5, after site review and discussions, she encouraged tertiaries in Botswana to engage more with the private sector to improve skilled development.
She highlighted that their university was a public school that offered hundreds of programmes of study, including graduate degrees in business, law and engineering. Ms Davenport stated that their university also has several highly ranked fine arts and health master’s programmes.
In addition, she said the Academic Health Centre is home to four colleges, patient-care facilities and major research laboratories. Ms Davenport noted that their university is celebrating 200 years of its existence, adding that their global partnership was to see an increase in student’s mobility.
Botswana Education Hub director of International Marketing and Business Development, Mr Labane Mokgosi said benchmarking with such developed universities would assist them to develop the education sector to that of high quality learning.
He noted that the establishment of the university replica in Botswana would strengthen Botswana`s excellence strategy and would benefit Batswana to improve their standard of living.
Francistown District Commissioner, Ms Cordelia Mpape said they are looking forward to hearing more from the university by March 2015. She added that the Investment Centre of Vibrancy by 2022 is therefore brewing and urged stakeholders to create a history for the city.
Ms Mpape said by so doing, they are creating awareness and also sensitising many people to transform the city. ENDS
