Some health posts provided with one nurse
11 Mar 2013
Parliament has been informed that some health posts such as Mokgenene, Poloka and Moralane are provided with one nurse.
The Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said his ministry planned to provide all health posts with at least two nurses when the staffing situation improved.
He said the ministry had currently made arrangements such that when a nurse in such a facility went on leave, a relief nurse was sent to cover that period.
Mr Matlhabaphiri stated that emergency referrals from a health post were to the higher level facilities within Mahalapye DMHT and therefore the nurse transporting emergency patient was normally away for a few hours.
He said information was always sent to the mother clinic so that the facility could be covered during that period.
The minister was responding to a question asked by Shoshong MP, Mr Phillip Makgalemele who wanted to know whether the minister was aware that Mokgenene, Poloka and Moralane had one nurse and that when the nurse was on leave or transporting patients having an emergency, residents did not have access to medical services.
MP Makgalemele also asked the minister to state measures put in place to ensure that residents received continuous uninterrupted medical services. ENDS
