Artists must wise up

Artists in Kgalagadi South constituency have been encouraged to save proceeds from competitions so that they may uplift their lives.
When addressing performers during the constituency arts competitions, arts and culture officer, Malebogo Mosala advised artists to start earning a living out of their talents.
She also advised performers to set themselves attainable targets that could nfluence their growth.
Furthermore, Mosala challenged artists to convince the government that they were relevant and playing a significant role in the development of the country.
To earn themselves extra money other than proceeds from constituency arts competitions, artists were encouraged to organise shows throughout the year.
For his part, organiser and coordinator of the drama competitions, Godiraone Mhula informed artists that arts might reduce unemployment if taken seriously.
He also advised performers to position themselves to benefit from grants from various government departments and parastatals such as the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund by way of drama played.
He observed that performers in Kgalagadi South were not convincing in their drama. He therefore advised drama groups to, inter alia, script their plays and engage in character researches. Mhula said actors should represent the true characters.
Out of the seven drama groups Bothakga Drama Group from Makopong scooped first position and collected P5 000 while in Dikhwaere, Tsoga Maroko of Tsabong South conquered and pocketed P5 000 also.
Gareng ga Dithota of Gakhibane/Khawa put up a P5 000 worth of performance in traditional song and dance.
In individual categories, guitarist Matobolo Padime of Tsabong South got first position and pocketed P2 500 while Maiteko Ntshwakge of Werda won the setinkane category and pocketed the same amount.
For poetry, Olebogeng Mosimanewapula of Kokotsha emerged victorious and also smiled home with P2 500. ENDS
