BFA to appoint vice president technical
30 Oct 2014
Botswana Football Association (BFA) is expected to appoint vice president - technical on Friday (October 31) after the post fell vacant following the resignation of Ernest Nthobela from BFA National Executive Committee this year.
Stephen Phetlhe, a teacher by profession worked closely with Nthobelang. He is also a qualified coach hence some people were of the view that is what the doctors had prescribed for the association.
The position itself needed a competent person with good credentials. Although BFA president, Tebogo Sebego confirmed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) met on Thursday (October 30) he refused to name the person they had appointed.
Sebego pointed out that he would want to work with someone who would buy his philosophy and who can deliver. He said he wanted that caliber because eventually as the leader of the association, he would be answerable to the Association and the nation at large.
“We wanted someone who could command respect in the technical team,” he added.
According to the BFA constitution the vce president (technical) shall be the second vice president and shall be responsible for: amongst others the development of football at the grass root level, youth Football, women’s Football National Teams, football Facilities, training and development liaising with football structures outside the Association.
The constitution further says he/she will act as president during the absence and/or incapacitation of the president and the first vice president and acting as the first vice president during the absence and/or incapacity of the first vice president, as well as carrying out duties and functions as may be assigned to him by the National Executive Committee and/or the president.
Phetlhe has worked as a Vice chairperson (Technical) at Kgatleng Football Association. He once assisted Notwane Football Club on their brink of relegation. Currently, he is the national coaches’ committee secretary. ENDS
