LEA promotes SMMEs

Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) has been touring some farms in the Molalatau area in an effort to promote and develop small and medium enterprises (SMMEs).

In an interview with the Selebi Phikwe based LEA Acting Branch Manager, Mr Gaayo Managoba recently they toured and inspected Click Africa Farm in Molalatau.

Mr Managoba said in addition to promoting and developing SMMEs in Botswana, the organisation aimed at creating a centre of excellence for entrepreneurship and sustainability of small micro and medium enterprises.

He said LEA offered advice and facilitated business plans to individuals to kick-start businesses that could diversify the economy. 

Mr Managoba noted that LEA also offered an incubation programme meant to nurture businesses in a controlled and protected environment so as to accelerate growth for businesses through provision of space and shared services at subsidised rates.

For his part the project manager for Click Africa Mr Nathan Banda said the horticulture project was initiated in 2008 solely to grow crops such as cabbage, green pepper and tomatoes for commercial purposes.

Mr Banda said Click Africa owns two farms measuring 2.6 hectares and 10 hectares to grow the same type of crops and currently they have employed nine people.

He noted that their major customers were individuals, Mr Veg, Fresh Pac and Choppies adding that they were also interested in establishing business relationship with partners across the country. ENDS
