Mascom Top 8 returns
29 Oct 2014
One of the most thrilling cup competitions in local football, the Mascom Top 8, returns bigger and better this season.
Eight teams that finished in the top eight bracket in the be Mobile Premier League last season will from today, October 30, battle for the lucrative cup competition which carries P1 million first prize.
It will be a do-or-die battle in the first quarter-final when defending champions, BDF XI meet Police XI at Molepolole Sports Complex on Thursday night (October 30) at 7pm. It will be the first time this season that the two teams will be facing each other.
No matter how many times they play in a season, matches between the two teams are always hard-fought affairs. At Serowe Sports Complex Friday evening (October 31), league champions Township Rollers will engage Motlakase Power Dynamos which finished on the 8th spot of the premier league last season.
Rollers started well in the league this season and will be looking to win the cup they last won during its inception in 2012. Motlakase on the other hand will be at home and will not want to be a walkover for the on form Gaborone giants.
Motlakase, who reached a cup final for the first time in the 2011 Coca Cola Cup, will be aiming to reproduce another glorious cup run. While Mapalastina boast of on form players like Segolame Boy and Jerome Loius, Motlakase have Pelaelo Tlhabano among their top scorers this season.
On Saturday, November 1, FC Satmos will host Gaborone United at the Selebi Phikwe Stadium at 3pm.
The last time the two teams met was in a league match in April this year where GU edged past Satmos by 3-2. Satmos, which is currently sitting on the 9th spot with 11 points after nine games, will face GU which is one place above them with 14 points in the be Mobile Premier League.
Satmos have Lovers Mofokeng who has been on top form this season having netted six goals in the league. He will be the man to mark for the Moyagoleele defence. GU on the other hand have not been scoring many goals lately.
The last match on Sunday, November 2 will see Nico United host the Kgatleng giants Mochudi Centre Chiefs at Selibe Phikwe Stadium at 3pm. The pair return to the ground where Chiefs were held to a 2 all draw three weeks back.
The teams will return again next weekend after some league fixture during midweek, and the overall winner of the two legs will book a place in the semi-finals later this year. ENDS
