Education avenue to eradicating poverty
29 Oct 2014
Principal education officer in the Hukuntsi sub-region, Ms Atlasaone Mmereki, says education is a crucial segment of life, which can play a significant role in poverty eradication.
She said for poverty to be eradicated country wide, students had to be diligent in their academic work so as to ultimately shape the destiny of the nation. Speaking during Monong Primary School price giving day recently, Ms Mmereki said poverty was a temporary mark and it could only be erased through proper education.
She said one had to dream of education first, noting that she was aware of the tribulations that remote areas like Monong were facing and encouraged them to convert such difficulties into opportunities.
Ms Mmereki pleaded with standard seven students to be prepared for the next stage of their education and challenged parents to commit to working together with teachers.
She noted that students get motivated when they realise that there was unity between teachers and parents.
Mrs Mmereki further said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MOESD) had vowed to usher quality education to all citizens regardless of their geographical location.
For his part the school head Mr Tiro Barei applauded students for their commitment to education adding that the rate of students drop out was low despite challenges they faced. The school has 58 students.
Mr Barei however decried scarcity of water in the school. He acknowledged the good working relationship between teachers and parents. ENDS
