Shoppers arrives in Ghanzi

The Minister of Infrastructure Science and Technology, Mr Johnie Swartz has commended the opening of the Sefalana Shoppers supermarket in Ghanzi saying it will provide jobs for the Ghanzi community.
Officiating at the opening of the 19th Sefalana Shoppers Supermarket recently, Mr Swartz said the Ghanzi branch was a clear testimony of the Sefalana Group investment portfolio, not only for revenue generation, but also an investment in human capital.
He said the supermarket had created 50 jobs for Batswana from Ghanzi and surrounding areas, adding that it was a welcome development, particularly for employment creation.
He added that the government would continue to implore the private sector to take the lead in creating sustainable industries that will create employment for Batswana.
The minister commended Sefalana for conducting Botswana Qualification Authority accredited Programmes for all its employees on a continuous basis, a move he said was in line with one of the pillars of vision 2016 of an educated and informed nation’.
He told the gathering that Sefalana Shoppers supermarket did not only create employment directly but also through the engagement of external service providers such as security, repairs, maintenance contractors and cleaning services.
The minister also commended Shoppers for their continuous support to local producers and suppliers as it purchases most of its stock from local manufacturers such as KBL, Bolux, Bokomo, and Food Botswana, which are directly owned by citizens.
In his vote of thanks, the chairperson of Ghanzi District Council, Mr Director Tlharese commended the local Shoppers supermarket management for having assisted in the employment creation in his township. ENDS
