Lobatse hosts a titanic battle

16 Oct 2014

The saying, “when two bulls fight, it is the grass that suffers” will come to play on Saturday, October 18, when two Lobatse giants, BMC and Extension Gunners meet in a be Mobile Premier League game.

A lot will be at stake in this game; for starters, the current BMC coach Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare has played and coached both Extension Gunners and BMC.

Some players have exchanged camps, Kemmy Pilato and Tshepo Maikano defected from BMC to Gunners, whereas Boitshoko Zikhale and Ndana Moatlhodi moved from Extension Gunners to join Nare at BMC.

When these two sides met last season, first round BMC managed to beat Gunners one-nil and second round they played to a goalless draw. BMC gaffer said it was going to be a tense game, adding that even history could tell that for the past years, a clash between the two sides never produced many goals.

Nare also said the game would be emotional given that his roots were at Extension Gunners. “I don’t like playing against my former team, but to be honest my team is prepared for the encounter,” he said.

He said his goal poacher, Sageby Sandaka, had a knock, and they were still waiting for the scan report, and besides that, everything was fine and the players looking forward to the game.

Gunners assistant coach, China Matlhaku said his camp was injury free and they hadprepared well for the derby.  He said he was aware that spectators would be expecting a high class game.

He said during the week they were only working on the physical strength and some tactical aspects of the players.  “We don’t need to motivate the players, the game on its own is a self-motivator,” he said

Matlhaku further said they were aware that BMC were sitting at summit of the log and that they will come with guns blazing to retain the position.  He said his team did not start the league well, but because they had since picked form, they would fight to keep the momentum.

In other games, struggling BR Highlanders will face Sankoyo Bush Bucks at Serowe Sports Complex on Friday at 7pm.

On Saturday, BDF X1 and FC Satmos will battle it out at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks while at Itekeng Stadium, Orapa United will take Police XI.

Second placed Mochudi Centre Chiefs will have a date with Ecco City Greens at Molepolole Stadium and it remains to be seen if the Francistown based will redeem their pride against Mogosi.

Motlakase Power Dynamos will date Gaborone United in the evening at Itekeng stadium, the game starts at 7pm.
