BDF VI coach praises players

12 Oct 2014

BDF VI coach, Selebatso Mabutho has hailed his team’s character following their hard fought 3-1 victory over Police VI in the Mascom Volleyball League encounter at Otse Police College on Saturday, October 11.

Vengeance was only appropriate for the army side after suffering defeats at the hands of Police VI in the league first round and Capital Motors tournament.

“The game was tough but my boys played well,” said Mabutho recalling how his side did not play well in the Capital Motors cup game.

On the other hand, Police VI coach, Shimaka Ngwanaamotho faulted his defence for failing to thwart the soldiers’ attacks and losing many set services.

He said they did not play their normal game as they left BDF VI to command the game from the beginning.

“We had expected the game to be difficult because we have beaten them in our two previous meetings,” he said.

However, the meet saw the defending league champions start the game on high alert and matching threats posed by the Police side.

That earned Mabutho’s troop a 25-20 first set victory. As the game became tougher in the second set, Ngwanaamotho brought in Nonofo Motswetla and Boitumelo Sethomo for Ofentse Mabikwa and Alec Engleton in effort to contain the charging BDF VI.

However, that was not enough and BDF VI played to instruction and claimed the second set 25-22.

After recess, Police coach seemed to have given his players instruction on how to win the third set.

They took the lead from the start of the set and ultimately managed to avoid an embarrassing 3-0 defeat and won 25-18.

Notwithstanding, BDF VI managed to regroup and continued to tear Police blockers apart to take a 25-16 win to wrap up the encounter with a 3-1 victory.
