02 Oct 2014

The staff of the Office of President (OP) recently put work aside and instead took time to demonstrate love and compassion to the less fortunate.

The staff including directors of information services and broadcasting services departments as well as permanent secretaries from OP planted trees at the Kopong old age centre during their community service day.

Permanent secretary, Ms Kebonye Moepeng said they had come to take part in a project that had already been started by the community of Kopong as they had seen it important to help those in need. Ms Moepeng explained that OP had set aside a day in a month to help and indeed show compassion to the less fortunate.

She, however, explained that painting the old age centre was one of the projects that they had contributed to in Kopong adding that the projects had in fact brought dignity to the beneficiaries.

She further thanked the sponsors for their contribution in making the project a success among them Plascon, University of Botswana students, BC & LM gas, the Butcher shop and Prominent paint.

Kgosi Michael Molefe of Kopong explained that the two houses in the plot were built by collective efforts of young people in the village while the other house was built by students from UB.

He said the centre is going to cater for the elderly, the needy as well as orphans. Also, he said they intend to raise funds to build a health post within the centre especially to cater for the elderly.

Kgosi Molefe pleaded with everyone to help them with funding in order for them to realise their vision about the centre, citing that they intend to demarcate the area for multiple purposes.

Coordinator of the project, Mr Edward Ngwaga cited that their main intention when the centre is operational is to feed the elderly and provide accommodation for those of them of who do not have accommodation as well as get access to health care.

So far, he said far five private doctors had pledged to offer their services to the centre for free. Mr Ngwaga thanked Telemach Company for their support and the VDC.

The staff of OP also completed the two houses, fitting window glasses and doors. Ends
