25 Sep 2014
The fight against Ebola requires efforts and endeavours from all the countries.
A statement issued by the Chinese embassy in Botswana on September 23 stated that the epidemic, which was still escalating and spreading in West Africa had posed grave challenges to the international community.
“The Ebola virus is the enemy of all human beings,” reads the statement. The embassy further said since the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa, the Chinese government had been showing sympathy by offering cash, epidemic prevention materials and food.
“China has also sent, up till now, 174 medical experts to the affected areas to combat Ebola,” said the embassy, noting that this reflected friendship between China and Africa.
The embassy further indicated that in addition to other assistance the Chinese government had donated to affected countries about US$33 million and to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and African Union (AU) US$2 million.
The Chinese governmentvalso appealed to the international community to take active actions and provide more assistance. ENDS
