BOCRA launches brand strategy

24 Sep 2014

The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) is devoted to position Botswana as the best in Africa in terms of ICT usage and access.

BOCRA on Monday, September 22 launched its five year brand and corporate strategy, through which the organisation has set itself a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) defined by access and use.

The strategy identified six key result areas through which the organisation will deliver consumer satisfaction, facilitate universal access and service in the industry, provide affordable ICT services, a knowledgeable society, network efficiency and effectiveness and restore global competitiveness.

Launching the strategy and unveiling of BOCRA logo, Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi said BOCRA took over at a time when customer, consumer and shareholder expectations were at a heightened level.

He noted that affordability, ubiquity, variety, reliability and safety of communications services lied at the heart of modern day consumer expectations.

“I can only emphasise that a strategy is just a means to an end and not an end in itself. It will take a team of committed and dedicated men and women for the strategy to realise its ultimate goal of increasing ICT access and usage,” said the minister.

He however noted that the ministry signed a Shareholder Compact Agreement with BOCRA board as a mutual agreement of the expectations of the two parties. The agreement is a contract with measurable objectives that are to be driven by the launched strategy, he added.

BOCRA chief executive officer, Mr Thari Pheko said the bedrock of the BOCRA strategy was to attract and retain the best available talent, develop a high performance culture and improve employee engagement.

He further said it was through their people that BOCRA would be able to build strategic partnerships, ensure that Batswana were able to enjoy and benefit from reliable, safe and secure communication networks.

“This should satisfy our customers and improve our standing in the world map thus placing Botswana as one of the centers of excellence for ICT and communication services,” said Mr Pheko. ENDS
