23 Sep 2014

Junior Achievement Botswana (JAB) has appreciated and awarded programme implementers from the education system.

The JAB Volunteer Development Programme awards were meant to promote the spirit of volunteerism in the socio-economic development of the country.

Other objectives of the awards were to motivate business advisors to continue to participate and deliver on the JAB programmes as well as to organise and thank volunteers for their unconditional delivery of JAB programmes.

On the night of the awards, 92 volunteers were recognised, comprising of business advisors made of teachers, non-teaching staff and peer educators and JAB regional coordinators.

Speaking at the award ceremony, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Mr Peter Choto said the objectives of the awards were in line with the recommendations of the Revised National Policy on Education.

He also noted that JAB as an organisation that has worked tirelessly at developing future entrepreneurs, identified well with the nation’s aspiration of Economic Diversification, the key to sustainable development.

“The fact that our business advisors as agents of change in the society have embraced the spirit of volunteerism proves that we are in the right direction to achieving our National Vision pillars of being a Compassionate, Caring, a Productive and Innovative, and Educated and Informed Nation,” he said.

Mr Choto also appealed to all Batswana to uphold and to not let go of the culture of volunteerism and community cooperation which had since been strongly embedded into culture and way of life by forefathers.

The awards categories included individual awards for teaching and non-teaching, individual awards for peer educators and JABROCS, certificates of appreciation and special awards.  ENDS
