Chobe Landboard pledges to up game

23 Sep 2014

Chobe Landboard has pledged to improve its services to the public during a board meeting held on Monday, September 22 in Kasane.

The board’s acting chairperson, Mr Montle Magosi said meetings were held so as to improve the services they give to their clients.

“I would like to advise the staff together with the board members that the constitution of this country provides that administrative action must be lawful,” he said.

Mr Magosi reminded them that the ground breaking of the Kazungula Bridge project has been done; as such he called for every stake holder to ensure that the project became a success.

On other issues, he said that the land board was already facing a high demand for land, specifically because of the Kazungula Bridge project.

He stated that they were aware that there some issues still remained unsettled such as the Kachikau Industrial plot layout, the Chobe West masimo layout and the Parakarungu/ Mabozu meraka.

One of the board members, Mr Johane Chenjelwa said board members were supposed to attend Kgotla meetings to address the concerns of the public instead of waiting for the chairperson to do so.

He said that their performance had declined compared with other land boards, adding that they should improve as a matter of necessity.

“We cannot be part of a losing team,” he said before complaining that the ground breaking took place without their knowledge, yet they were expected to allocate land for the project.

Mr Martin Nzehengwa, the secretary for Chobe Landboard said that they had to work with other departments such as that of wildlife since most of their work is carried out in the veld.

The acting chairperson also cautioned the public to be aware of some individuals who call their customers claiming to be working for the Chobe Lnd board promising to allocate them plots.

He said such people demanded that customers e-wallet them a certain amount of money for them to speed up their land allocation process. The land board, he said, had nothing to do with those people and warned the public not to give their hard earned cash to criminals.  ENDS
