23 Sep 2014

Gaborone United continued its winning spree by walloping Nico United 2-0 in the beMOBILE premier league encounter in Selebi Phikwe over the weekend.

The first goal for Moyagoleele was scored in the first half by Osego Gaotewe while Ronald Chikomo netted the second goal in second half of the game.

Nico managed to squeeze in one goal after Mogomotsi hit a long straight shot beyond GU’s goal keeper’s reach.

Nico was in control of the game in first half even though GU took the lead 11 minutes into first half.

However the game belonged to GU in second half.

The boys from the capital city had control of the game and mounted pressure on the Selebi Phikwe side.

In most instances the ball was on Majombolo’s half of the pitch.

Nico United’s defence was kept busy and pressure on the team resulted in Nico’s midfielder Khumoeitsile Kufigwa playing rough on Chikomo and getting a red card.

In an interview, GU’s coach Allen Gumbo said that he was happy his boys won the game and collected three points.

He said they came to Selebi Phikwe with high confidence with the intension to win.

However, he said Nico was a tough side and kept his boys on their toes.

He said that he has introduced youngsters in the team and they were doing well.

Meanwhile, Nico’s assistant coach, Gabanathata Tshegofatso expressed disappointment at the loss.

He said Nico played well but lacked the finishing touches around the goal keeper’s area.

Nico’s defence and midfield were also not up to scratch. ”The team played well but lacked the finishing composure.

We had numerous chances to score but my boys failed to utilise them which makes me believe that we lack the mental strength to make proper decisions and score goals,” he said. ENDS
