President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has hailed the Local Authorities Health Inter-Sport Association (LAHISA) for promoting sporting activities among employees.
Speaking at the launch of LAHISA in Gaborone on September 18, Lt Gen. Khama said sport was not only about physical activity, but it was also about wellness.
“Moreover, it is also about bringing a balance to the body for increased productivity in the workplace as well as bringing people together and fostering a spirit of friendliness among employees,” he said.
He said it was encouraging to note that LAHISA represented sporting activities among employees of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, including councils, district administration, the Ministry of Lands and Housing and land boards as well as the Ministry of Health, targeting health facilities around the country.
In that regard, President Khama said LAHISA was also an all-inclusive organisation that embraced senior management and the strategic leadership, which underlined the principles of unity and team building that immensely contribute to increased productivity at the work place.
LAHISA’s consultant, Mr Base Sebonego said the main objective of LAHISA was to bring together employees of government and provide a health mind through wellness sporting activities in order to produce positive results in the public services.
Mr Sebonego said the association had 30 teams with over 300 people registered per team and that this year, LAHISA will participate as observers at the Southern Africa Inter- Municipalities Sports Association (SAIMSA) games that are held annually at a chosen SADC country.
SAIMSA membership comprises six Southern African countries namely; Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.
These countries meet and play every year at the end of September and this year the sport festivities will be held at East London, South Africa from September 22-30, with the next games to be held in Maseru, Lesotho and Ndola, Zambia respectively.
Roughly around four thousand participants from different councils/municipalities from the mentioned countries will participate. ENDS
