16 Sep 2014
Desert Kings and Tanian were eliminated from the Volleyball Capital Motors Independence Cup competition during the preliminary games in Serowe on September 13.
Both teams committed school boy errors such as poor serving and left vulnerable attacking targets uncovered. Their concentration and reflexes also faded with the game.
Desert Kings was humiliated by cup champions, BDF VI by 3-0 before suffering 3-1 defeat to Mag Stimela. In their encounter against Mag Stimela, they started well by winning the first set 25-19 but failed to hold on as their opponents displayed an incredible come back to win the game.
Tanian also failed to take advantage of home ground as they suffered three straight sets losses against Mafolofolo and Kutlwano respectively.
The game between Tanian and Mafolofolo experienced 30 minutes delay because Tanian kit did not have numbers in the front but the officials later permitted the team to use the kit.
On the other hand, both BDF VI and Kutlwano proved to be a hard nut to crack as they won all their encounters by three straight set as BDF VI humiliated Mag Stimela 3-0 while Kutlwano humbled Mafolofolo 3-0 in their other encounters.
BDF VI won Mag Stimela 19-25, 23-25 and 18 25 while Kutlwano beat Mafolofolo 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19. BDF VI and Mag Stimela in pool B and Kutlwano and Mafolofolo in pool D are proceeding to the quarter finals to be held next weekend.
Meanwhile, coach Selebatso Mabutho of BDF VI said his team did not put much strength in their games to avoid injuries and to give those with injuries time to recover. He was adamant that they will retain the cup. Ends
