Fitness centres promote healthy living

Ngwaketse Land Board secretary, Mr Molebedi Khuduego, says time is ripe for government to consider setting up fitness centres to promote healthy living among workers.


Mr Khuduego said during Southern District wellness day in Kanye on September 12 that other than unifying the employer and employee, wellness activities at the work place enhanced productivity hence need to consider establishing exercise rooms.


He said regular exercise, consistent and periodic medical check-ups help curb possible complications that could hamper productivity at workplace and healthy living.
“

Partners should also support one another in an endeavor to promote healthy lifestyles by encouraging each other to exercise regularly and eating healthy food,” he said.


For his part, BuBucks representative, Mr Barwe Bok whose company specializes on financial matters warned employees to exercise caution every time they borrow money. 


Finance he reiterated form a crucial part to attain a productive workforce hence need for shrewd financial management.
He said borrowing more than they can afford is dangerous and need one to plan to stay out of debt.


Mr Bok expressed displeasure at instances where people just borrow money because they are credit worthy only to pursue other activities other than the ones they had acquired loans for.


District Health Management Team official, Mr Kabo Semphadile called for support networks at workplace and homes to help manage stress.


He said one of the ways to arrest stress is for people to first accept their situations and get as much information and advice as possible to overcome such challenges.


Speaking on behalf of Southern district Council Secretary, Mr Vincent Kenosi underscored that wellness activities remain pivotal to attain a well-functioning staff hence formulation of wellness committees by the government of Botswana.


To promote a healthy lifestyle, Mr Kenosi called on fellow employees to consider walking to and from work as opposed to driving as well as the use of staircases instead of lifts at the workplace.


The event, which attracted Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development employees in Kanye, was awash with physical activities among them; Aerobics, Fast walking, Football, Netball, and Tag of War.


Other activities included Dental examination, HIV/AIDS test, Eye examination, Blood pressure test and many others. Ends
