Women and Sports Botswana (WASBO) will host the first women in sport pitso in Gaborone on September 13.

WASBO public relations officer, Deborah Phefo said in an interview that her organisation was concerned about the fact that sport lose girl athletes.

Phefo said it was evident that the boy-child and the girl-child joined sport at the same time, but along the way it was the girl-child that fizzled out. She said the Botswana women in sports Pitso was a forum, which sought to address issues and challenges that woman and the girl-child face in their participation in sports.

Phefo said expectations were that participants will inform WASBO on challenges and issues that were faced by female sports personnel. She further said some of the topics that will be discussed were finding a way in which female athletes can create a balance in sports, family and work.

“This is one of the challenges that need to be discussed as it has a big effect on an athlete’s participation in sports from a tender age until maturity.” According to Phefo, participants will also discuss on how the girl-child can be groomed to be tomorrow’s leader.

She said issues surrounding creating a friendly environment from women with disabilities will also be looked into with a view to improve all to participate in sports as tool for life skills development for children will be one of the topics discussed. face his opponents at Marrakech.  ENDS
