ABE offers a master’s degree and internship programme whose objective is to support young personnel who have the potential to contribute to the development of industries in Africa.

According to BOCCIM head of public affairs marketing and communication, Ms Sheila Moribame, ABE was developed at the fifth Tokyo international conference on African development that was held in Yokohama in 2013.

The Japanese government at the conference stated that its policy of strengthening support for the ongoing dynamic growth of Africa with strong public-private partnerships.

This she said was a greater opportunity for the private sector, adding that BOCCIM members would be given a priority. She urged any interested participant to make use of the platform which has been created to enhance Japanese relations with Botswana.

Applicants, she said should be individuals who are currently working and already have a Bachelor’s degree in their respective fields. Interested entities can identify employees they wish to send to Japanese Universities of their choice to pursue their Post graduate studies which would be followed by a six months internship in a Japanese firm.

The application process is facilitated by BOCCIM and applicants will be shortlisted after deadline, which is on October 17, 2014.

Details of Universities she said were clearly specified on the application form; in which choices would be made depending on what the University specialises on.
JICA will be an intermediary to all participating universities.

Ms Moribame stated that the expected outcome of the programme was to ensure a network of potential contributors to the development of African industries who would also lead Japanese private sector to engage further in economic activities towards the African continent. Ends
