Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) and BMW Capital Motors have renewed their vows as the car dealer on September 9, announced a P400 000 sponsorship deal for the annual BMW Capital Motors Volleyball Cup.
The partnership which has been endured for eight years will see the champions from both men and women categories pocket P20 000 from the Independence cup.
Launching the sponsorship, Capital Motors sales manager, Michael Masunga said volleyball is a sport that spreads across the country and hence encourages social cohesion.
He said the sport further helps athletes uphold moral values of which these values resonate with the company’s corporate social responsibility to develop a nation.
He said the sponsorship is yet another milestone which affirms how government and private sector can work together.
“Sport contributes to economic empowerment for the youth as some athletes make a living out of sport,” he said.
The manager said sport is growing in its popularity throughout the country and hence there is need to invest in sport facilities and development. He commended the national team and clubs for their performance at international competitions and hence putting Botswana on the map.
“For us sponsoring volleyball will always be our jewel of national pride,” he noted.
BVF president, Daniel Molaodi said they appreciated the gesture and treasured their relationship with BMW Capital Motors. He said the sponsorship encourages them to continue working tirelessly and it further motivates volleyball in towns and villages to play sport.
Molaodi said once again the cup will be qualifier for the Zone VI club championship in Mozambique. He urged clubs to raise funds for the zonal competition as BNSC would not be sponsoring them this year.
The men teams will kick start their qualifiers for the independence cup this weekend in Serowe and Jwaneng.
In Pool A consists of Police, Kalavango and Prisons, Pool C; are Spiking Stars, Diphatsa and Itekeng and the two pools will lock horns in Jwaneng.
In Pool B are BDF, Mag Stimela and Desert Kings, Group D are Mafolofolo, Kutlwano and Tanian who will meet in Serowe this weekend.
The women teams are split in two pools of which the quarter finals and semis will be played in Lobatse on September 20-21 then the finals in Molepolole on September 27.
In Pool A are Kutlwano, Mag Stimela and BDF, Pool B comprises of Mafolofolo, Kalavango,Spiking Stars and Dynamites. ENDS
