Dynamic Chess Club will this weekend organise its first ever competition called the Dynamic Chess Club Youth Open Championships.
The club, which is based in Gaborone, was formed this year and its founding president Cinky Boikanyo says it has already affiliated to Botswana Chess Federation.
The weekend competition will be held at Legae Academy from Saturday morning (September 13) to the next day Sunday.
Boikanyo said they have sent invitations to all government junior secondary schools and private schools to enter players for participation at the tournament at P100 per player.
“The tournament is in line with the constitution which is to run chess tournaments at club level,” said Boikanyo, who is a qualified FIDE Trainer.
He explained that the competition will be played in six rounds, with the first four rounds to be played on Saturday and the last two rounds on Sunday.
Boikanyo said the club’s leadership has managed to raise funds for prizes.
He said winners in different categories would receive trophies and medals as well as chess books and magazines.
He added that the champion will also qualify for one year training under the Dynamic Chess Club.
Boikanyo, who is the highest qualified chess trainer locally, also said he was available to train all coaches or teachers who want to upgrade their coaching qualifications.
