The Presidential Housing Appeal Committee handed over a house to the Lesang family and 14 toilets to some elderly people in Mookane on  September 5.

The committee received the house and toilets from Ms Pinkie Setlalekgosi and handed them over to the beneficiaries. Receiving the houses on behalf of the committee, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said it was her honour to receive the donation.

Ms Tshireletso said the responsibility of the community’s well-being was under her ministry. She thanked Ms Setlalekgosi for showing compassion towards her community.

She urged residents of Mookane to follow suit, saying Ms Setlalekgosi’s gesture was a response to the President’s call for Batswana and the business community to help provide shelter to the needy.

She also commended President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama for being compassionate.

She noted that through the initiative, companies and individuals have pledged money and houses.

Ms Setlalekgosi adopted a primary school in Mookane and also helped in the development of a tribal office in the village

Ms Setlalekgosi thanked her family for their support to undertake community projects.

She said she did that out of love and compassion so that she could change the lives of the beneficiaries.

She said the family of 10 lived in one hut and she took it upon herself to make a difference in the lives of the Lesang family by building three houses for them.

She also donated bedding, furniture and clothes for the family.

Ms Setlalekgosi also built 14 toilets for elderly in Mookane.

She urged the community to take care of the elderly people and children and ensure that they were well fed and clothed.

Receiving the donation, Ms Lesang thanked Ms Setlalekgosi for the house, saying she would not have made it in life if Ms Setlalekgosi was not part of her life.

Ms Tshireletso was accompanied by the Private Secretary to the President, Mr Tuelo Moloko. Ends
