Water shortage in Serowe now history

Following the Serowe connection to the North South Carrier (NSC), Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila has assured that shortage of water in the village will be history.
Speaking during P320 million project commissioning in Serowe recently, Mr Mokaila said the project would improve the water situation in the village and that his ministry was determined to continue enhancing water services across the country
The Serowe connection to NSC 1, he said, augmented water from 37 boreholes located at Setekwane and Moriri lands, which were proving to be insufficient to the ever growing demand for water.
In their continued efforts to improve water services, he said in November 2012, they constructed NSC2 between Moralane and Palapye with steel pipe to mitigate the sporadic blasting of NSC1 in that area.
The NSC1 constructed from glass reinforced plastic, he said supply about 60 million liters per day. He explained that on the 75km project between Moralane and Palapye, government spent P1.5 billion and pointed out that it is government intension to have two main water pipes all the way to Gaborone and periphery
The minister appealed to the residents to use water prudently as their water usage trend affect the upcoming generations also as all projects need water. He added that government is spending lot of money in bringing water services to the people.
Mr Mokaila stated that their clients are charged P2 per kiloliters for the first 5000 liters of water VAT exempted, while the following 5000 liters clients are charged P6 per kiloliter.
Also, Mokaila hailed Serowe Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) for serving their clients well, especially the station General Manager, Mr Innocent Leonard.
He said he sometimes receives calls complimenting them and some even want Serowe WUC leadership to be relocated to their areas.
The Umbrella VDC chairperson, Mr Topo Radisego who said water situation has improved applauded the water authorities in the area for informing the residents when water crisis arise.
For his part, Senior Tribal Subordinate Authority in Serowe, Kgosi Mokhutswane Sekgoma said improvement of water situation in the village does not give the residents a liberty to waste water, and therefore pleaded with the community to save water. Ends
