Sprint Couriers has sponsored Botswana Netball Association (BONA) to a tune of P50 000 for the Africa Netball World qualifiers penciled for Gaborone on September 14- 19.
Qualifying will be an uphill for Botswana as faced tough competitions from Tanzania and Uganda who are ranked 14 and 15 respectively while the local girls are ranked number 16 in the world.
Coming after Botswana in the rankings are Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia ranked 22, 26 and 27 respectively whereas unseeded Kenya and Swaziland will seek to redeem their pride and finish in a better spot.
Two teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2015 World Cup in Sydney, Australia and this will be an opportunity for Botswana to take advantage of home ground and get three times lucky for competing at the world showpiece.
Launching the sponsorship on Wednesday, September 3 in Gaborone, Sprint Couriers Project Director, Michelle Gebrial said the sponsorship is for a good cause as BONA will need the funds to run the tournament.
She said the company is new and still growing and hence believes that with time they would be able to bring more deals on the table.
Gebrial said they want to nurture their relationship with BONA and continue contributing to sports in Botswana. She further stated that on the same week of the tournament, Sprint Couriers will be receiving an award for International standard award in quality in Geneva.
BONA president, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said she believed the two parties share a lot of qualities in that Sprint Couriers is a young company which has achieved so much led by women directors just as netball is led by women.
She stated that they are excited and hoping that Botswana will qualify for the third time and further build momentum for the 2017 World Junior Championships to be hosted in Gaborone.
“As we witnessed during the African Youth Games, Botswana offered something different and we want to maintain that form,” she said.
She said team Botswana has heart and they believe in them and hence urged Batswana to rally behind the girls from September 14 when they face Zimbabwe on the opening game. ENDS
