Volleyball league postponed

04 Sep 2014

The start of the second round of Women’s Mascom Volleyball League will be put to ice this weekend because four of Kutlwano’s players are reportedly with national Under 23 team to play in Algeria.

According to Kutlwano coach, Isaac Samuel, the rules of the game allows that a team cannot play when they have some of their players engaged in national duty.

Though he could not divulge names of the four players in question, Samuel said he had privileged information as he sits in the coaches’ board and was positive that the game will be postponed.

“I can’t disclose the names of those players because at the moment they have not yet been informed,” Samuel said and revealed that it was the duty of the national Under 23 coach to reveal the 12 players he is pinning his hopes on.

However, Botswana Volleyball Federation vice chairperson Games Organising Commission, Bapoga Nshakazogwe was in the dark pertaining to the possible postponement of the said game.
Even Mag Stimela coach, Maboka Molefi was not informed on the developments but assumed that Kutlwano could be having some of their players with Under 23 team. He was not privy to details since his Under 23 players were held up by academic commitments.

“I haven’t received such a communication but maybe I will find it on my desk when I get to my office,” said Molefi who was reportedly driving from Palapye.

Notwithstanding that, Molefi said he will be parading a new look team after acquiring four players from the now defunct Diphatsa Ladies team. Molefi said that he will be working on combinations as he looks to build a formidable side capable of competing with revered names like Mafolofolo and Kutlwano.

Diphatsa ladies team ceased due to lack of sposnsorship after Botswana Defence Force pulled off from supporting the maroon and white Francistown volleyball side.

However, Molefi’s efforts may be dealt a blow as one of his trusted servants may be jumping ship to Gaborone based teams as she will be based in the capital city pursuing her academics.

Meanwhile, men’s volleyball league goes into the third week with games slated in Molepolole and Francistown.

In Molepolole, high riding Kutlwano will seek to outmuscle the Mahalapye based outfit Mag Stimela in the first duel of the day that may set the tone for the upcoming games.  The second game will avail the people of Molepolole to witness who, amongst the Police and Prisons officers will devour another when the two institutional sides stage a mouthwatering game of volleyball during lunch hour.

Following the institutional duel of Police vs Prisons, Jwaneng based Itekeng will date Mag Stimela in the third game after which Kutlwano and Spiking Stars of Ramotswa will wrap up the Molepolole volleyball extravaganza.

In Francitown, city boys Diphatsa will try stage an armageddon against the Molepolole’s Desert Kings whose run in the men’s Mascom Volleyball League has been more of a rollercoaster.
Immediately after lunch a titanic battle between former BDF backed side Diphatsa and BDF VI is expected to take down the ceiling as the rivalry of the two sides is rekindled. ENDS
