Orapa Round Table No. 61 and Ladies Circle Orapa have donated school shoes, socks and soap bars to Mosu and Matshumu school going children.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony on Saturday, September 30, the chairperson of Round Table Botswana, Mr Lebogang Molatedi said Round Table exists to uplift the livelihoods of members of communities within which they live.
He stated that in an endeavour to achieve their mandate they identified 72 needy children in Boteti Sub-district who have no shoes or their shoes are not in a good condition.
Mr Molatedi said Orapa Round Table No 61 in partnership with Ladies Circle Orapa embarked on a project dubbed “Barefoot No More” and raised over P10 000.
Barefoot No More project will be adopted by all the Round Tables in Botswana with each one of them annually making sure it raises funds to donate to these children, he added.
The campaign, he said has been running successfully in South Africa over the years and Round Table Botswana aims to give the campaign the same support to ensure it has a positive impact on the lives of needy children across the country.
Ladies Circle Orapa chairperson, Ms Gaone Keitumetse observed that as women and mothers they would like to safeguard the lives of underprivileged children in the society and enhance their self-esteem through partnership with Orapa Round Table No. 61.
Ms Keitumetse said that the project would play a significant role in assisting to achieve one of the vision 2016 pillars of a ‘Compassionate, just and caring nation.’
Councillor Keitsile Motlamma of Mmatshumu appreciated Round Table and Orapa Ladies circle’s efforts saying the gesture would make a positive difference on the children as well as boost their confidence at school. ENDS
