Jwaneng has witnessed the much awaited launch of the newly formed, Galaxy Football club.

Speaking during the launch, the team president, Koolatotse Koolatotse said the club was born out of the unification of Jwaneng Comets  and Debswana Youngsters.

Koolatotse said they saw the need to bring the two clubs together in order to benefit from the limited resources available in town. He said the former cross town rivals used to compete for sponsors in the past.

The club also launched a new logo with a slogan: Where Pride Meets Passion and three football kits, black for home games and red for away games and an alternative blue kit. Koolatotse said their vision was to impart life skills on Jwaneng youth and inspire them to become the best through sport.

For his part, Jwaneng Mine senior human resource manager, Mlungisi Jackalas expressed joy that their efforts had borne fruit, adding that the development was long overdue.

Jackalas noted that sport benefitted not only the players but the community and the nation at large, adding that sport should be a vehicle for youth empowerment and a source of income for players and administrators.

He said the mine was committed to the upliftment of livelihoods through arts, culture, education and sports. The mine invested in world class sporting facilities to be utilised by top local teams including the national team as a sign of commitment, he added

ackalas noted that Jwaneng was fast becoming an entertainment town thanks to the recent Toyota 1000 KM desert race as well as the inter-mine games.

He pleaded with members of the community to give the team the necessary support to stay on course.

Meanwhile, the South African based Platinum Stars FC chief executive officer (CEO), Clifford Ramorwa said his team was excited to be associated with the fresh and passionate Galaxy FC.

He pledged support for the team and offered them access to soccer academies in South Africa through a players exchange programme.

Ramorwa has encouraged players to work hard and challenged the team leadership to have a vision and put up structures to achieve that. ENDS
