With the vision of serving the entire African region, BotswanaPost has announced introduction of the first inter-postal money transfer corridor with neighbouring Zimbabwe.
The media release stated that the service was offered through the Universal Post Union (UPU) and managed by the International Financial System (IFS) and went live on August 27.
The introduction of the cross border transaction would result in BotswanaPost and ZimPost customers being able to send and receive real time money between Botswana and Zimbabwe.
The release says IFS is a robust stand alone application that automates the processing and management of international and domestic (within Botswana) money orders.
Presently, BotswanaPost uses IFS to provide electronic domestic money order services. The IFS application, in addition to handling all phases of international and domestic money processing, provides advanced features that facilitate cash management and accounting.
The introduction of the money order offers an opportunity to the many Zimbabweans who reside in Botswana, allowing them to send remittances to their loved ones back home on a nominal fee. BotswanaPost boasts the largest footprint of 125 post offices whilst ZimPost has 220 post offices giving customers unparalleled convenience.
This initiative along with both existing and new products and services are geared towards contributing to BotswanaPost’s revenue in their journey towards excellence and becoming a 500 million pula company with a cost to income ratio of 60% by 2016. ENDS
