Cricket association hosts tournament

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) is preparing for the annual four nations girls Under-19 tournament, which commences on Friday, August 29 and ends Sunday, August 31.

According to information from the association, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe will join Botswana’s Under 19 girls in the 40 overs competition which will be held at the Cricket Oval in Gaborone.

Sumod Damodar, the BCA secretary for publicity said Zimbabwe will bring their senior women’s team with a fair amount of the U-19 players. The competition will be played in a round-robin format with each team playing three matches, and the one finishing at the top of the standings would be crowned champions.

Botswana opens the tournament with a clash against Mozambique at the BCA Oval A at 9.30 am, while Zimbabwe faces Namibia at the same time at the Oval B.

On Saturday, August 30 Botswana will take on Namibia at Oval A while Zimbabwe meets Mozambique at Oval B. The last matches on Sunday will see Botswana round-up their campaign against Zimbabwe at Oval A, with Mozambique battling with Namibia at Oval B.

The fourteen woman local team which is under the guidance of coach Innocent Chando consist of the following players; Olebogeng Batisani (captain), Shameelah Mosweu (vice-captain), Laura Mophakedi, Thapelo Modise, Mimmie Ramafifi, Ponalo Rapinyana, Jacqueline Kgang, Shathisani Mosokomane, Tebogo Motlhabaphuti, Magdeline Molebatsi, Goabilwe Matome, Precious Pebe, Bontle Madimabe, and Wame Motaneko, while Mpho Kotu is team manager.
